Short Hat Company is a family-owned business that is dedicated to creating beautiful, high-quality newborn hat crochet patterns that satisfy the needs of both kids and parents.
We really appreciate you taking the time to support our small business!
The Early Years
The quest for the perfect hat began in 2001 when designer Chris Epp found youth & infant hats that protected, but offered little in the way of style. He decided to bring this unique design perspective to the children’s boutique market and Short Hat Company was born.
In 2010, Tom & Tracy Sailors acquired Short Hat Company and relocated the company to Omaha, Nebraska. Since that time, dozens of boutiques and a major Midwest department store have begun carrying the Short Hat brand, with dozens more to begin carrying the Fall 2011 line.
Our headwear collection is defined by classic, clean designs paired with function and performance. We know that infants and toddlers are picky consumers when it comes to their hats, so during the design process we are careful to take both comfort and style into account.
Our knits are handmade in Argentina using meticulously chosen, high-quality yarns. They are soft and toasty warm and will keep your child cozy during the cold winter months.
The cap collection is made in the U.S.A. using unique, designer fabrics. Subtle details make all the difference in comfort and fit. The brimmed hats include a padded Coolmax headband that eliminates the scratch factor and helps wick away moisture. With different head shapes and sizes in mind, we use “true-fit” adjustable backs --rather than elastic -- for a non-binding feel.
Infant hats are made to fit children from 6-24 months.
Some of our infant hats are made as newborn hats and made to fit children from 0-6 months.
Toddler & youth hats are designed to fit children 2 to 6 years of age, and will accommodate many head sizes.
Sizing parameters can vary but will be displayed for each style.
It is important to us that we do business with a conscience.
We source organic and renewable fibers whenever possible and we use recycled plastic visors in our brimmed caps.
Our collateral material is 100% recycled paper - printed by hand - on an antique letterpress with soy inks. The mill that makes our paper is in Niles MI, with 100% of their electricity generated with their own on-site hydro plant.
All of our manufacturers focus on excellent craftsmanship, compensate their employees fairly, and provide safe, comfortable work environments.
